Bridled Tern with leg band
When I lookded at the photo taken in boat trip on 7/18 in Sai Kung, I found a Bridled Tern with leg band in the right leg. I have brightened the photo to show the leg band.

An interesting record. It is most likely that this is a bird ringed in Hong Kong. A number of Bridled Tern chikcs have been ringed in the past in HK, and this is probably one of these chicks returning to the breeding sites as an adult. Unfortunately the ring number is not visible to determine for certain which individual this is, or to confirm whether it was ringed here or overseas.
If it is from HK, the bird must be at least 6 years old. No tern chicks have been ringed since 2004, to avoid causing disturbance to the breeding colonies.

Thanks for your information. It is interesting to know it might be bred here in Hong Kong and it came back to Hong Kong again.

If this is from HK, then it is probably even older. Birds that were ringed later have (Yellow-White) colour flags on them.
