yyattung 19/09/2010 17:17

I am not sure of this! Would you have more pictures of this bird?

lyatming 19/09/2010 18:27

Three more photos for the bird.

Looks like a Nordmann's to me.  Where was it taken? It doesn't look like it is at Mai Po.

lyatming 19/09/2010 18:43

the photos were taken on 18/9 @ Nai Chung ( Sai Kung )

brendank 19/09/2010 18:53

I would say Nordmann's Greenshank away from Mai Po in fall is a very good find. I wonder if there any records of this species away from Deep Bay?

This is a juvenile Nordmann's Greenshank which is moulting into winter plumage.  Note the two tone bill (typical of juv Nordmann's)yellow legs, and rather compact structure.  This is an excellent record, which I really hope you submit.  These are also excellent photos of what is in HK a very unusual plumage.

Excellent photos, excellent and very interesting record at a site which just about qualifies as Sai Kung (though administratively it is Tai Po, and of course it's closest to Ma On Shan as a population centre).

That's all assuming this Nai Chung is the one near the beginning of Sai Sha Road, shortly after leaving Ma On Shan.

Can you confirm please, lyatming?

Some really excellent photos of a surprising record away from Deep Bay. Thanks for sharing.
