MP, 9Mar. From this angle, can it be told what kind of bunting it is? Pls advise.

Looks like a Russet Sparrow to me.

thanks for your comment. But how is it identified to be Black-faced Bunting? Is it by the streaks on breast?

You asked yourself 'what kind of [u]bunting[/u] is it?' and for starters for a number of reasons mainly of 'jizz'/general appearance, and general location (viz Asia!) I agree it is a bunting.

Then, on the basis of what we can see of the bill base (pale), face/head patterning (rather dull, indeterminate, with faint, broad super), the rather 'scruffy' rather than either streaked or clean underparts, and simply the general coloration and indeed ABSENCE of a number of features which could have pointed to, say, Little, Chestnut-eared, Yellow-breasted, Rustic, any of the Reed Buntings etc, etc, - then there's simply nothing to point to this being anything other than a typically rather 'dull' plumaged version of our most numerous wintering scrub/open country bunting - Black-faced.
