Brown Hawk Owl

Thanks Ronaldo for your kind words. Luck indeed, but missed out a subsequent Mark Six bet.

BTW, supposed a migrant bird, is this owl rarely seen in HK? I initially thought this a Asian Barred Owlet(班頭鵂鶹). How special is this Northern Boobok (or Brown Hawk Owl)?

All PMs to me were answered separately. Excuse me for not frequenting this chatroom.

As far as I can remember, some of this owl species like landscape planting of private estates during migration, so they are quite "middle class".

Examples are one at Tai Ko Shing in 1996, one in Mei Woo in 2007 and 2008.

So, this record at Kln East (I assume) is another interesting record of how this owl species like open highly unnatural landscape area in HK during migration.

I don't think it's a rare migrant. And could turn up anywhere, from Po Toi to urban parks (I saw it two years ago in Lai Chi Kok park - and there were at least two birds there). But you shall check the Hong Kong bird record books for more info. 3551smile445
