Hi Wilson
You're right about the species ID for both, but the night heron is a juvenile.
It's always surprised me how tame the night heron is in Taiwan and how elusive in HK.
Cheers
Mike

Mike, there are too many dogs in villages in HK.

i am pretty convinced that he is a male .. whether breeding adult i do not know .. he was clearly dancing about and singing to the female up in the trees .. or if really a juvenile .. calling for his mother to feed him, .. but then why the dancing and flapping of the wings?

here are a few more of this same malayan night heron ..
