Silky Starling (Red-billed Starling) juvenile at Tai Mei Tuk

For the past two years, a few pairs of Silky Starlings have hung around Tai Mei Tuk in the summer months. This year I saw a juvenile attended by an adult female on 29 June - the first HK breeding record.

I'd be very glad if someone could try to take photos of the juvenile (and the adult males & females).

The Silky Starlings hang around at the Tai Po end of Tai Mei Tuk village - this week I've seen them feeding in the mature fruiting trees in front of two restaurants (Luca and Ting Kok Tea House), also often on the tall triangular steel structure on top of a village house near Ting Kok Tea House and in the tops of the casuarina trees beside the public car park.

Thanks

Richard

Silky Starlings at Tai Mei Tuk

Alan, I'm glad you've taken photos of one of the Silky Starlings at Tai Mei Tuk, but it's not a juvenile. It's an adult male (red bill, white head, grey mantle, black primaries).

The juvenile I saw the other day was like a female (i.e. with a brown mantle) but still quite fluffy around the head and with a dull yellow-orange bill. It was quite easy to find because it was so noisy - constantly begging to an adult female.

Hi Richard,
I am the one who taken the photo of Silky Starling male at Tai Mei Tuk on 29/6/07.
I have taken another photo at 洞梓 on 20/6/07, I don't know the ID of this juvenile, I think this is White shouldered Starling.
