A single Sharp-tailed Sandpiper on the Scrape was unusual in November, and 2 (possibly 3) Ruff added interest.
600 Avocet were on the Scrape and unusually (and something of a role reversal) several Black-winged Stilt were seen from the Boardwalk.

Great Few Days for Raptors
[b][u]RAPTORS AT MAI PO (8th & 9th Nov 2006)[/b][/u]
Today and yesterday have both been fantastic days for watching raptors at Mai Po particularly around midday in the southern part of the reserve near Lut Chau. The clear weather and variety of species mixing together makes it a good opportunity to identify them.
[b]8th Nov[/b] : 9 Common Buzzards, nearly 50 Black Kites, two Eastern Marsh Harriers, 3 Ospreys and a full adult White-bellied Sea Eagle.
[b]9th Nov[/b] : 5 Common Buzzards, 30-40 Black Kites, 2 Imperial Eagles (an adult and sub-adult), 2 Greater Spotted Eagles and 2 Bonelli's Eagles (including one hunting ducks by the Education Centre).
Hopefully these will stay around for the weekend.

Went to have another look for the Water Rail but no sign however I was compensated by a Daurian Jackdaw at the tower end of pond 20. It was associating with the Crows and magpies as they congregated before flying off to roost. (#343)

Two Lesser White-fronted Geese were spotted by a birdwatcher flying into the southern Mai Po area at 10:30 this morning.

... but after their brief visit to Mai Po they were back at their favourite pond at LMC this afternoon.
