TV Program on Po Toi - Saturday 10th January

The 30 minute RTHK TV documentary on Po Toi will be shown this coming Saturday 10th January on ATV Home Channel at 8pm and at 11pm on Cable TV Channel 10. This program is part of their Hong Kong Geographic series.

The filming was done last autumn on Po Toi and, although I have not seen it yet, I believe it will feature birds such as Red-necked Phalarope, Asian Brown Flycatcher, Red Turtle Dove, Dollarbird and Eurasian Siskin, plus Romer's Tree Frog and catching moths by lamplight as well as typical Po Toi scenes and interviews with local personalities.

The program is in Cantonese so no doubt members will be surprised to hear me speaking this language.

香 港 南 極 ─ 蒲 台

蒲 台 島 是 位 於 香 港 最 南 面 邊 陲 一 個 細 小 海 島 ， 長 期 暴 露 於 強 烈 海 風 之 中 ， 生 物 多 樣 性 相 對 較 低 ， 但 早 於 1992 年 ， 在 島 上 已 發 現 全 球 只 在 香 港 有 記 錄 的 盧 氏 小 樹 蛙 ， 是 繼 南 丫 島 、 赤 鱲 角 、 大 嶼 山 之 後 ， 最 後 一 個 發 現 這 種 樹 蛙 的 地 方 。

春 秋 兩 季 ， 過 境 遷 徙 鳥 經 過 蒲 台 島 。 在 春 天 ， 牠 們 從 南 方 向 北 飛 ， 蒲 台 島 是 香 港 境 內 第 一 個 讓 牠 們 歇 息 的 陸 地 。 一 年 下 來 ， 記 錄 得 的 過 境 鳥 類 多 達 二 百 種 。

所 謂 適 者 生 存 ， 物 種 因 應 生 存 的 地 理 與 環 境 條 件 而 進 化 。 小 島 上 的 生 物 也 有 其 獨 特 之 處 , 當 中 更 存 在 稀 有 物 種 。

希 望 這 些 細 小 的 生 物 ， 能 夠 一 代 一 代 在 蒲 台 島 好 好 生 活 ； 冬 天 之 後 ， 跟 過 境 遷 徙 鳥 再 次 見 面 。

30 mins seem too short for such a great place.  but anyway it's good to see birds and birding featured in local tv programme.

Thanks Bryan. I have no plans to start a new career on TV.
But I thought the brief shots of oLDcaR's backside showed TV potential.

I agree, the program could have been longer and shown more of the island scenery and features.
