Introduction of Speaker 講者介紹:
Dr Josep del Hoyo, from Lynx Edicions in Barcelona, is Senior Editor of the Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW) series, the acclaimed 17-volume encyclopaedia that describes and illustrates all the species of birds in the world. The first volume was published in 1992 and the last volume this past June 2013. We did not want the project to end just because the books were completed. So, we created HBW Alive,
www.hbw.com, the online project to keep the Handbook of the Birds of the World series alive and growing, which is also a revolution in ornithological reference works. The web-based project offers the contents of the HBW volumes (including all of the detailed texts and illustrations), constantly updated and making full use of the new technologies of the digital era, including related multimedia resources and links, customization, and Google translator to facilitate the general comprehension of the text in 71 languages, including Chinese. Josep will explain the history of the projects and demonstrate how HBW Alive works and how to subscribe. There will also be a special offer price for buying HBW books.
