Tsim Bei Tsui, 4Jan. Is it Whimbrel? I would consider it as Eurasian Curlew if not the barred underwing. Is it a good indicator?

Yes, a Whimbrel.
As well as the barred underwing, look at the head pattern - there is clear contract between the dark and pale stripes on the head.
