Can anybody tell me if this is a Lesser or a Greater Coucal.
Is there a any fool proof way of distinguishing the two species especially the immature?

Please don't forget to mention the date and location of the bird record.

It looks like a Lesser Coucal to me, just based on the proportion and the color pattern.

I agree this is a juvenile Lesser Coucal - the head and neck are much browner than on juvenile Greater (which is essentially black and grey on the body/head) The wing barring also looks different from greater - I think the black bars are wider.
