為購買本會辦公室物業募捐
本會目前設在尖東的辦公室是租用的，租務合約已於本年四月屆滿。自從四年前遷入現址以來，本會會務已有長足進展：會員人數增加超過四成（由 660 增至接近 1,000），我們又開展了塱原保育和中國觀鳥兩大項目，全職員工亦由一名增至四名，工作空間因此日見緊拙。為了共用餘下的辦公桌，我們的兼職員工和義工要擇日輪流回來工作。辦工室內印刷品堆積如山，除了傢具之間窄窄的通道之外，根本看不到地板，其擠迫情況可想而知。
在物色新辦公室的時候，執行委員會覺得與其繼續租用，不如購買物業來得合算。除了可以解決空間不足的問題之外，自置物業可以更好地利用手上的現金，省卻數年搬遷一次的麻煩，同時又可以為職員提供一個較理想的工作環境。
經過一番搜尋之後，我們在油麻地地鐵站附近的彌敦道鴻寶商業大廈找到了一個合適的單位，建築面積有857 平方英呎，足以容納7人同時工作，還有充裕的貯存空間。我們會先做一點裝修工程，計劃七月中遷入。
購買物業需一佰八十二萬元，其中大部分來自本會手上現金，餘數會由捐款和貸款支付。我們的榮譽會長林超英先生慷慨捐出三十萬元，本會執行委員會在此呼籲會員捐款，籌募餘下的三十萬元，希望各位大力支持，玉成此事。購買物業費用需於六月中支付，因此捐款最好在六月底前送出。捐款如有盈餘，餘數將會撥歸本會日常週轉運作之用。
請填好附上的回條，用劃線支票支付捐款，抬頭「香港觀鳥會有限公司」，然後寄往香港九龍漆咸道87-105號百利商業中心1612室香港觀鳥會收。為聊表謝意，捐款五千元或以上者將獲贈《香港鳥類攝影圖鑑》第二版一冊，該書將於 2010 年出版。
在提出捐款的時候，榮譽會長林超英先生說：「我樂意捐助，因為觀鳥給我帶來三十年快樂時光。」 無論多少，各位的捐款都可以讓更多人享受觀鳥的快樂時光，請馬上行動，共襄善舉！

Dear members,
Call for Donation: Purchase of Property for the Society’s Office
As you may already know, the Society’s current Office at East Tsim Sha Tsui is a rented property, the contract for which has already expired this April. Since we moved into the existing Office in 2004, the Society has seen significant progress: membership has increased by over 40% (from 660 to nearly 1,000) and we have taken up two big projects at Long Valley and mainland China. Our staff has grown from one person to four full-time members, plus many part-time workers and volunteers who share the remaining desk on staggered days. With printed material piling up close to the ceiling, one can hardly see the floor except the narrow passage among the furniture.
While looking for a new home for the Society, the Executive Committee has decided to buy rather than to rent. In addition to meeting the immediate need for more space, the arrangement will make better use of our financial resources and save the relocation effort every few years. We can also provide a more agreeable working environment for the staff.
After some searching, we have identified a suitable unit at Ruby Commercial Building on Nathan Road, close to MTR Yau Ma Tei Station. The gross area of 857 sq. ft. can accommodate up to 7 persons and the much needed storage space. Relocation will take place in mid July, after some minor improvement to the existing finishes.
Most of the $1,820,000 cost of the property will be paid from cash-in-hand, while the balance would come from donations and loans. Our Honorary President Mr CY Lam has made a generous contribution of $300,000. The Executive Committee would like to appeal to members for donation to settle the remaining $300,000. Members are welcome to contribute any amount to support the cause, preferably by end of June 08 (final payment for the purchase will be due in mid June). Donations in excess of the target amount will be used to support the day-to-day operations of the Society.
Please mail your donations by a crossed cheque payable to “The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society Limited” to Room 1612, Beverley Commercial Centre, 87-105 Chatham Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, together with the attached reply slip. As a token of gratitude, those who contribute HK$5,000 or more will receive a complimentary copy of the second edition of “A Photoguide to the Birds of Hong Kong”, which will be published by 2010.
