Little Curlew

Yesterday a Little Curlew was found (by Geoff Carey) at the Nine Eagles Golf Course at Chek Lap Kok and seen again this morning.

This bird can be seen well from the left hand side of the verandah in front of the golf course. Please be reminded not to trespass onto the course itself.

The bird was still present at lunchtime, but had moved to the opposite side of the course and could be seen from the far end of the walkway that starts in the back left corner of terminal 2 (next to the lost property office).

As far as I can tell this is the first midwinter record for HK and possibly the first between the end of October and April.

Nice shot John!

May I know if the golf course is open to public ?

Do I need to pay entrance fee for just walking in ?

TOP

"Nine Eagles"

Hi Louis,

You can walk in to the clubhouse area - or drive in and park - but access to the course itself is restricted by security guards.

There is no entrance fee.

With luck you might see the Little Curlew from the front left corner of the clubhouse (next to Thai Restaurant) or -as Mike says above- leave Terminal 2 at level 5 near the lost property office and take the elevated walkway towards the Marriot Hotel/Expo area.

You can look onto the course from the east end of the walkway too, and also from a grassy lane outside the chain link fence to the west of the Golf Course.

On the 25th December the Little Curlew was in the area near the 2nd Tee. We saw it closest through the fence. It was okay for a view, but not good for photography....

Thanks you, K Mike!

For those who might look for the Little Curlew: on May 1 around 3:30pm, I have a fairly close encounter
(about 30-40 meters) with the curlew, at right hand-side of the restaurant,
i.e. on the grassland at right hand side of the entrance gate of the golf club. Good luck!
