It seems that a steady flow of migrants is passing HK, especially flycatchers like Y-Rumpeds.

Mike and others

Would be grateful if you or someone else suggest sites on Lantau, especially Tai Ho?

I would like to know how to go to the places by public transport, starting best from Tung Chung.
Wooded area are particularly welcome. I don't mind trips that require walking up and down for a morning.

Thanks

Hi Mr Tai

Wong Lung Hang which is behind Tung Chung on the north face of Sunset Peak is a good wooded area. Its about 15 minutes walk from the MTR station or catch any of the buses going to the south side of Lantau and ask the driver where to get off.

I would also suggest the coastal trail from Tung Chung to Tai O, checking out the side trails at San Tau. Shao Lo Wan and Sham Wat on the way. As you approach Tai O you may also see Chinese White Dolphin. Not sure which of the local buses brings you closes to the start - presumably the one to the Yat Tung Estate.

The woods around the back of Mui Wo can also hold migrants in autumn.

If you fancy a bog walk you can either walk from Tai O to Shek Pik or the reverse. Buses to Tai O, or Ngong Ping will drop you at Shek Pik if you want to start there.

I look forward to hearing what you find

Cheers

Mike

Thanks. It looks that you've supplied me a lot to keep me busy exploring Lantau alone for the autumn.

I certainly would start trying some of your suggestions soon.

Thanks. It looks you've made suggestions that would keep me busy exploring Lantau this autumn.

I'll start visiting Lantau soon. But how about Tai O itself?

As well as Mike's suggestions, the walk from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping (via Shek Mun Kap) and the catchwater on south Lantau can also be productive at times. Also Chi Ma Wan (access from Pui O) if you have time and energy.
