Education Centre Ponds
From Saturday 20 June, visitors are welcome to walk freely along the paths inside the ponds beside the Education Centre (formerly known as the Waterfowl Collection ponds). The area contains a few benches, plants to attract butterflies and several bat boxes.
Visitors are normally asked to not enter that area in summer to allow Black-winged Stilt to nest, and again in winter when ducks and cormorants are abundant. However the Black-winged Stilt have now moved their young to other ponds.
Once the winter birds return, the ‘please do not enter’ signs will be put back up again to reduce disturbance.
Some repairs to the perimeter bunds will take place in the ponds this summer, so from time to time a backhoe and work truck will be operated.
