The bird hides in Mai Po Nature Reserve provide places for bird-watchers as well as places for wide range of animals especially small land mammals. According to our researches, there are 24 terrestrial mammals species found in Mai Po Nature Reserve include 9 rat species.
Although rats are natural members of our ecosystem, we understand that not everyone enjoys encountering them in bird hides because of hygiene issue. WWF Hong Kong will keep cleaning the table and chair regularly with 1:99 bleach, and set up the hand sanitizer in each bird hide in the future.
