Recruitment of Volunteers for Researches
The project has stepped to the second year and we would like to carry out more research programmes. We hope to recruit volunteers who are interested in conducting the following researches. Members are welcome to join.
(I) Birds and plants relationship study
Objectives:
To find out the relationship between birds and plants in Long Valley by observing plants utilized by birds and record down the details like their species, how the birds use it (e.g. feed, rest) etc.
Requirements:
Knowledge of identification of common birds in Long Valley. Basic knowledge on plants preferred.
Study method:
Surveys would be carried out irregularly. First, choose a target area (best with different plant species and trees or constructions for shelter nearby, suggestions will be provided) and then sit down and observe quietly for about 1-2 hours. Note down all details on plant usage by birds (photo or notes are welcome).
(II) Night bird survey
Objectives:
To observe birds staying in Long Valley and farmland usage at dusk or night.
Requirements:
Knowledge of identification of birds in Long Valley (especially waders and nocturnal birds)
Survey method:
Once per month (except summer). Visit to particular farmlands (e.g. bloodworm ponds, managing shallow water habitats etc) at dusk or night to observe and record bird species and number.
