黑臉琵鷺主要生境修復工程

米埔自然保護區內的黑臉琵鷺保育區域由數個位於保護區北部的基圍組成，其中#3, #4及#6基圍將會在今年夏天進行生境修復工程。
#3, #4及#6號基圍會在今年4月開始被放乾，方便挖土機及推土機進出。屆時我們先會除去現時蔓生於塘面的植物，隨後塘底一部份的淤泥亦會被清走，令#3, #4及#6號基圍回復原來擁有大片開闊水域的面貌，這正是黑臉琵鷺喜歡選用的棲息生境。工程預料會在十月底完成，以迎接屆時從朝鲜半島繁殖地飛至香港的黑臉琵鷺。

Major Habitat Restoration Work for Black-faced Spoonbills

Gei wai #3, 4 and #6, which form part of the Black-faced Spoonbill conservation zone inside the Mai Po Nature Reserve, will undergo a major renovation this coming summer.

In April, Gei wai # 3, #4 and #6 will both be drained to allow excavators and dozers in. Areas of rank vegetation will be removed first, then the floor will be de-silted in order to restore former areas of open shallow water, a preferred habitat for roosting Spoonbills. Enhancement work is expected to finish in late October, which is around the time Spoonbills leave their breeding grounds in the Korean peninsula and head to Hong Kong.
