I had a week at Stanley, Falkland Islands last month and watched penguins at two locations: Murrel Farm and Volunteer Point.

1. Murrel Farm

It took about 30-minute drive from Stanley to Murrel Farm and another 60 minute off-road driving over the rolling peaty moor to the Rockhoppers colony. Hundreds of penguins rested at the rocky slope with stunning view of Berkeley Sound in the background.












There is a colony of gentoos penguin not too far away from the Rockhoppers.










2. Volunteer Point

It took over 2 hours driving from Stanley to Volunteer Point. The route was about 80km while the last quarter was really adventure, off-road driving with variety of challenges. However, the rewards was outstanding. I saw King penguins, Magellanic penguins and Gentoo penguins with chicks. The white sand beach was beautiful with penguins and other birds. I only heard the sound of wave and penguin. It was amazing and majestic.
