More good briding at Mai Po today, despite the hot weather. The waders came onto the scrape from about 0935 and were still well settled at 1130.

This bunting is rather large in size (like a pipit), seems to be a yellow-browed rather than little bunting.

The Black Stork was reported on Saturday (03 Nov), seen by the early birders on Sunday (04 Nov), but unfortunately not picked up again. From the boardwalk on Thursday (08 Nov) morning there were good numbers of Dunlin (~1000), Kentish Plover (~200), Black-headed Gull (~600) and an assortment of ducks (~3500).

11/11 又一次見到大麻鳽 X1 飛過,可惜只影到後面

At dusk yesterday evening (12th November) I had brief, fairly distant views of what appeared to be a Bean Goose at Mai Po Scrape (pond 16/17). This would be the first record for HK.

Unfortunately the bird disappeared while I was moving between hides to get a better view, and it could not be relocated last night or this morning. I will look again this evening to see if it turns up again.

I suggest that anyone visiting Mai Po over the next few days keeps a look out for this bird, in case it is still hiding somewhere nearby.

The early part of the week was especially good for birds of prey in southern Mai Po. A report from Tuesday morning comprised; Greater Spotted (1), Imperial (2) and Bonelli’s Eagles (1), Peregrine (2), Osprey (1), Eastern Marsh Harrier (1), Black Kite (25), Common Buzzard (2), Besra (1). The two Imperial Eagles have taken up daytime residence of the trees beside Pond #20 similar to last year. Also early in the week there was a notable increase in Penduline Tits in and around the reedbed areas.
