Beginner bird photography

Hi all. I’ll visit Tai Po Kau for the first time in two days and I’ve rented a Nikon D7100 to try my hand at bird photography. Any pointers for a complete novice? I’ve never used a professional camera before and I have virtually no knowledge on photography theory. Some photography 1001 education would be much appreciated.
