Unidentified Skulking Warbler on Po Toi

Unidentified Skulking Warbler on Po Toi

Visitors to Po Toi this weekend.

If you tire of watching Brown Shrikes, Grey-streaked Flycatchers, the Opera and the Dragon Boat Races, you may want to look for a large brown unidentified and very skulking warbler with a long tail seen and heard in the area on the map below this morning (Friday).

The bird makes a soft clicking and churring call. In 45 minutes watching this morning, I only saw it for 1 second and can say it was large, brown and had a long tail tapering at the end. It may be a Russet Bush Warbler although I have not seen or heard one on Po Toi for over 6 weeks. At this time of the year, it could be one of the Philippine wintering Grasshopper Warblers such a Middendorf's or Gray's.

Walk through the football field and continue on the path until you reach the scrubby trees on your left-hand side. Continue to the end of the large grave site on your right, the bird was on the left from here until the next set of graves on your right.

From the sister's cafe going away from the main area towards the South Coast, turn left immediately on the dirt path which goes to the toilet for their cafe. Continue past the toilet, under the very big tree and about 20 metres on your left.

This is where I saw the Blue-winged Pitta last Friday. I think Maison took his photo slightly closer to the school on the day before. But I don't think the bird is there now.
