Closed Area Permits - please apply through WWF
Dear Members,
We have recently heard that the Border Police in Fanling who are
responsible for issuing the Closed Area Permits for members to go out
along the floating boardwalk at Mai Po, have been receiving direct
applications from members for the Closed Area Permit, instead of going
through the WWF office at Mai Po.
The HKBWS have had a long standing agreement with WWF that we would go
through WWF in order to get their Closed Area Permits because WWF has to
have a record of how many people have boardwalk permits and manage the
number of people who go out along the boardwalk. Also, the $100 that WWF
collects for the permit is for the maintenance of the Society’s
‘Cathay Hide’, so it is for our own benefit.
Please, follow the agreement and go through the WWF Mai Po office when
you apply for a permit. The Border Police have also said that they may
charge anyone who does not have a valid Closed Area Permit when they go
out along the boardwalk.
Thank you
