Common Snipe, not Pintail

I believe this is a Common Snipe. It is too bright for Pintail; in particular, the cheek stripe is white, and contrasts with the buff supercilium, the underparts are very white and the bulge of the supercilium in front of the eye is not marked as it should be.

If I saw it, I would also have called it a Common Snipe!

Is the call, a safe disgnostic feature between Common/Pintail/Swinhoe's?

Thanks,
Ken

Common Snipe, not Fantail Snipe

Just a note to say that here and elsewhere on this forum the name 'Fantail Snipe' is being used. While this is a direct translation of the Chinese name, and is the old name used in HK, it is not the English name we now use. This is 'Common Snipe'.

While there are problems with this name (it's not the commonest snipe in the early autumn, for example), it is the name currently in use. Please let's use it.
