WWF Hong Kong Mai Po Habitat Management Trial Reports

Several WWF Hong Kong reports concerning habitat management trials at Mai Po Nature Reserve for waterbirds are available to download from the WWF website.

1. Trial on Improvements to the High Tide Roosting Habitat for Migratory Waterbirds at Gei wai #16/17 Mai Po Nature Reserve 2005-06 (2 reports). A study upon the impacts of earthmoving works (such as island creation, island height reduction, enlargement of open water area, and earth barrier construction) to roosting waterbirds (mainly migratory shorebirds) inside the gei wai #16/17 high tide roost area during the spring migration period.

2. Trials to Improve the Roosting Habitat for Wintering Waterfowl in Ponds #20 and #24 at Mai Po Nature Reserve 2005-06 (2 reports). A study upon the impacts of vegetation management (bund cutting) to roosting waterfowl inside the freshwater ponds of southern Mai Po. Also an investigation into waterfowl preference for freshwater vegetation to roost or feed.
