Po Toi 24th December

Although not such a rare species this autumn, this is a very late date, in fact the latest on record by about four weeks I think.

Which shows that Po Toi can still spring some surprises even this late in the year.

I can’t see the distinct short black stripes on crown by the photos, rather uniform buff brown, seems to be a Red-headed Bunting!

Thanks George

Perhaps these extracts from other photos are more revealing

There are dark streaks on the crown, but on the back of the crown.
Other features which indicate Black-headed are the reddish rump, relatively weak streaking on the back, dark outlines around the head markings and longish primary extension.

I'd love to be proved wrong but I think it's a Black-headed.
