Yes it does look like a Russet Sparrow, but it also looks in less than perfect condition.

Mike,

Is it the juvenile Eurasian Tree Sparrow ??
It s paler cheek patches and is duller overall...though it's dark and short eyestripe. The bird has cheek spot. If we can see their upperparts, it can help us to identify.

Yes, I thought it could be juv Tree Sparrow too, though to keep things simple I left mention of that possibility out.

This is why we always really do NEED date and location.
