The Ecology and Unique Culture of Local Fishponds
In the 1950s, fishpond industry developed rapidly and became the main source of income for fishermen in Hong Kong. The fishponds also became important habitats for wildlife. As time went by, many fishponds were reclaimed for urban development to meet the high demand of land resources. While the economic values of these fishponds are decreasing, their high ecological values are unquestionable.
In this lecture, the speaker Mr. CHEUNG Fui will share with you the most economic and effective means for exploring local natural resources and cultural heritage in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long areas. The relationship between ecological value and cultural significance will be also discussed in the lecture.
