Just a record photo. Looks like a failrly early autumn record. According to 'The Avifauna of HK', the earliest autumn record (common snipe) is of one at Mai Po on 19 Aug 1998.
This looks to me more like a Pintail/Swinhoe's Snipe:
- Broad buff supercilium
- Relatively narrow loral stripe
- Relatively poorly marked cheek bar
- Short tail
- 'Plump' appearance
- Shorter bill than Common Snipe
There are already a few Pintail/Swinhoe's Snipe back in HK this autumn. They are often slightly earlier migrants than Common, so the date would not be unusual. Author: Paux Time: 30/08/2010 19:31
