I'll get in just ahead of lpaul, perhaps, and observe that it is presumably a first winter male, with those pale tipped coverts and in its underpart patterning, but it seems very early to be in this plumage. Plus the bill, of course!
A bird photographed by Peter and Michelle on 25 March 2006 at HKU (on OBI) is pretty similar.

Thanks Mike... it was crazy this morning... they were just coming in continuously... and only stopped after about 90 minutes coz the sun was shining directly into the hide and they could see my every movement.
Pretty sure you are right .... have adult male photo somewhere I think. Author: mguy Time: 23/11/2010 10:10

Both in fact are first-winter males (note the retained juvenile greater coverts and the brownish spots below on the second bird) and illustrate the variation in first-winter males of this species.
I think this has to be one of my favourite species! Author: mguy Time: 23/11/2010 13:30
Thanks Paul.... assumed they were both 1st winters, albeit different birds.
I sorta got lost with all the comings & goings this morning.... not more than one minute passed without at least one Thrush bathing or looking to bathe for the full 90 minutes.
I went inside & later glanced out the window to see a couple more bathing.
The male Japanese is one of my favourites also
