Subject: Reddish-colored Radde's Warbler? [Print This Page]

This bird was observed at Mai Po 20 Feb 2011.  Since it was rather reddish looking I thought it was a Manchurian Bush Warbler at first.  But it seemed too small and the call notes sounded like a Dusky Warbler. Yet the bill shape and bill color seems to fits Radde's Warbler (which can have a call similar to Dusky Warbler)--so I think it is a strangely reddish colored Radde's Warbler.

Fits female Manchurian Bush Warbler, the size of which is similar to a Dusky Warbler.

An interesting-looking bird Brendan.

However I think its probabaly a female Manchurian Bush Warbler in an odd pose - Robson notes that females are smaller than males.

Perhaps. I suppose the calls must be from a very close nearby Dusky Warbler. Although I usually associate the upper mandible of Manchurian Bush Warbler as being dark.
