Thanks for sharing your many lovely photos from Japan;looks like you had a great trip. The Blakiston's Fish Owl is particularly juicy, was this taken at the hotel in Nakashibetsu?
These swans are actually Whooper Swans  and are told from Tundra Swan by their more 'triangular' head profile ( not well illustrated in Brazils book), longer neck and have more yellow on the bill than Tundra Swans. Nice atmospheric pictures nevertheless.
Cheers

Thanks, Eric.    Amendment made.
I mistook that the swans are Tundra Swan because the "Birds of East Asia" shows that the black bill of Whooper Swan is at its tip only.  I re-checked "Collins Bird Guide" which states for Whooper Swan the yellow projects to below its nostrils.  Thanks for your correction.

I don't know exactly the location of the Blakiston's Fish Owl, as I was led there by the travel agent after dark and I set up my tripod inside a van.  Yet, it is probably the hotel you stated as it is the known location of this owl.

Cheers
KN
