I believe based on the pattern of the scapulars the first bird is a Swinhoe's or Pintail Snipe. Author: ajohn Time: 27/05/2011 09:58
I agree with Brendan on Swinhoe's/Pintail Snipe. As well as the scapular pattern, the head pattern (broad supercilium, narrow loral stripe and poorly-marked cheek stripe) and overall structure (short bill and dumpy body) fit this rather than Common. Author: Mon Time: 27/05/2011 22:01
I agree with Brenden and Ajohn. I think it is a Swinhoe's Snipe.
Consequently, I found I mixed them up with a Common Snipe on the same place
and about the same time. Attached is another view for further ID.
With thanks.
