6/11/2011 百搭日 Wild Card Day Outing

Any proposal of the outing site on this wild card day?  Pui O may be good.  If you like a long walk, then Lai Chi Wo or Fun Lau.  Other sites may be Tai Lam Chung, Pak Nai, Fung Yuen and Kap Lung.

Any preference?

Lai Chi Wo would be my choice. Never been birding in this remote part of the NT & hope there will be some surprise findings

The problem with Lai Chi Wo is that by the time that you arrive at the village, it is already noon time, and that leave few birds to be seen.

And Lai Chi Wo is quite a difficult place to hike.
Well, I don't find any problem with the usual places (Po Toi and Mai Po).
However, a new place is quite refreshing. Just that rarities there are a long shot.
Lam Tsuen is an increasingly exciting place. Many people, me included, have still not been there before, and many rare residents or normal autumn migrants that are increasingly rare are there. How about Lam Tsuen?
Can anyone suggest routes for this outing?

Time: 08:00 - 12:00
Gathering Time & Place: 08:00 Sheung Tsuen Bus Terminal Station, Shek Kong (near the junction of Kam Tin Road, Lam Kam Road and Kam Sheung Road, please refer to map)
Leader: Dr. Cheung Ho Fai
Free of Charge for all members.
HK$30 for non-member.

請注意，活動當日均沒有巴士直達上村巴士總站，參加者可以在大埔/元朗/錦上路西鐵站乘搭64K 巴士，在上村球場站下車，然後步行至集合地點 (參考以上地圖)，另一方法是到錦上路西鐵站乘搭72號專線小巴(往雷公田)，然後在上村球場下車。

Please note that there is NO any bus arriving the bus terminal on the activity day. Participants may take bus no. 64K from Tai Po, Yuen Long or Kam Sheung Road West Rail Station and get off at Sheung Tsuen Playground station and then walk to the gathering point (please refer to the map above). Another way is to take the green minibus no. 72 at Kam Sheung Road West Rail Station and get off at Sheung Tsuen Playground.

I'm not sure I agree with the comment that it is not worth visiting Lai Chi Wo because you arrive too late. I accept that you will not arrive at Lai Chi Wo until mid-morning or lunchtime, but the birding along the way can be very good. I would recommend this area to anyone who is prepared to make the effort, especially in winter.
