I was having a stroll around Ap Lei Chau at the weekend when I noticed the fragments of several African Land Snail Shells lying around a cast iron drain/manhole cover close to some dense scrub.
I know Eurasian Song Thrushes employ a rock or stone for smashing open snail shells, I was wondering if any of the Thrushes specioes occuring in HK carry out a similar operation? These African Snails are pretty big lumps, and would provide a substantial meal so the gap of the bird would need to be a fair size to swallow the body whole. Presumably the snail would have to be swallowed whole as they are so elastic in consistancy.
Does anyone know what it could be? If indeed it is a bird.
