Subject: Is this Japanese Thrush [Print This Page]

This is a big crop I'm afraid. The limited orange on the upper breast side and the pattern of the spotting makes me think this is a female Japanese Thrush. The bill is also dark. However the head looks quite grey but that may be the light. Help appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

It's odd-looking, but yes, I think its a Japanese Thrush.

Only a little bit odd-looking (just a tiny bit over-exposed?) - definitely Japanese Thrush.

Andrew, by "Clearwater Bay CP" do you mean the area with the barbecue and kite-flying facilities, as well as the Park HQ building, at the very end of CWB peninsula if you go straight on at the roundabout near Lobster Bay/Lung Ha Wan?

Mike, yes I do. If you walk down the steps from the car park towards the Tree Walk there is a tree in fruit and the thrushes are loving it. Better than McD's anyday! In the last few days I have seen Blue Whistling Thrush, Blackbird, Japanese, Pale, Scaly and Grey-backed thrushes. Not bad for a place I normally find deserted.
