Spent two weeks in Namibia for wildlife watching in Nov 2011.  Itinerary as follows: Namib Desert – Walvis Bay – Erongo Mountains – Etosha National Park – Waterberg National Park.  

One week in Etosha National Park in which two nights were spent in each of their three camps at Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni.  All the roads inside the park are in excellent condition and it’s good for self-drive.  Pictures were taken either around the camp sites or inside the car in the park as visitors must stay in the car outside the lodging areas.  Share with you some pictures taken in Etosha National Park:



@Namutoni

Blue Waxbill - Quite a number of them around Namutoni camp.  You won’t miss it.



Violet-eared Waxbill (Male)

Fork-tailed Drongo



Cattle Egret followed the Black Rhino closely



Crested Francolin – very lucky to see this pair while leaving the park



Common Scimitarbill



Red-billed Francolin – many of them around Namutoni camp



Grey-go-away-bird – many of them around Namutoni camp




Red-backed Shrike – saw this bird almost every 100 meters in the eastern side of the park



Burchell’s Sandgrouse – they came to the waterhole to drink but only stayed for 2 seconds and flew



Black-chested Snake Eagle



@ Halali Camp

Southern White-faced Owl – a pair roosted in Halali camp





African Scops Owl – it roosted at the entrance of the park ignoring all the visitors



Namaqua Sandgrouse





Red-necked Falcon with Greater Kestrel at the back



Greater Kestrel – quite common at the park



Common Ostrich





Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill



Red-crested Korhaan



Swainson’s Spurfowl




Blue Crane – saw this elegant pair of bird walked in front of our car






Violet Wood-hoopoe – a family around Halali camp



Southern Red-billed Hornbill – you won’t miss this pair around the camp



Cape Glossy Starling



Shaft-tailed Whydah



@ Okaukuejo

Kori Bustard – the heaviest flying bird on earth.  Very lucky to see over 200 Kori Bustard in one morning






Pygmy Falcon




Pale Chanting Goshawk – they are everywhere at the park





Northern Black Korhaan




Double-banded Courser




Ant-eating Chat



Red-crested Korhaan



African Cuckoo



Lanner Falcon




Red-breasted Swallow



Eurasian Hobby – can be closely observed by visitors





Spike-heeled Lark



Hoopoe – seemed a nest was  built at the roof



Cardinal Woodpecker



Secretary Bird

A Warthog came into Namutoni Camp at the evening and a group of Banded Mongoose followed the Warthog closely

Was this part of a tour or did you self drive with a ground agent organising your vehicle,accommodation, guides etc?

We have asked an agent based in South Africa to arrange a private tour for us. As far as I know almost all the Nimibian tours are arranged by South African tour companies.  However, I would suggest self-drive to travel around as all the roads are quite good and the country is very safe to travel around.  The lodges we stayed are very good and is highly recommended.  Our itinerary and accommodation as follows:
