江蘇如東紀錄得近四份一的勺嘴鷸種群數量
One quarter of the world population of Spoon-billed Sandpipers on Rudong mudflats
今年10月12-15日在江蘇如東進行的調查一共紀錄得106只勺嘴鷸, 調查覆蓋了120公里長的灘塗。這個數字佔這種極危鳥種的全球估計種群數量約四分之一，是保育活動開始以來的最高數字。
A total of 106 Spoon-billed Sandpiper was recorded during a survey, covered over a 120 km stretch of mudflats in the wider Rudong area, Jiangsu (near Shanghai) China, between 12-15 October. This number amounts to one quarter of the estimated world population of this critically endangered bird species and is the highest number observed since conservation activities started in 2000.
Hong Kong Bird Watching Society was one of the chief organizer of this event. Vivian Fu was quoted in the report. So I am very proud that our effort over mainland China has produced some major result. I think members should be proud of ourselves. Through your support, we can really achieve a lot of things for birds.
