I found two Crested Buntings behind Lin Au this morning! No good camera with me so attached is one iphone shot of the pair sitting in a tree. Through binocular attempts were useless. I got great views of them- stunning! Both immature/female, chestnut and brown. A bird I have wanted to see since I started birding.
The birds were behind the last area of cultivation along the path that runs along the stream.
Can you tell me what direction this is in relation to Lin Au village? In order words, if I go to Lin Au village which direction would I walk? Author: subbuteo Time: 2/12/2012 20:13
Hi Brendan,
I approached from the path from Lam Tsuen but I am sure it must be straightforward from Lin Au. There is a wide grassy area behind the village, I walked along a concrete path beside a stream. The birds were just past the last plot of agriculture.
The birds were perched prominently at first and then into long grass. There were masses of Chestnut buntings too.
A taxi from Tai Po Market or Tai Wo would probably be easiest; there may be a minibus but it is a small village so I doubt it. The walk from Lam Tsuen takes forty-five minutes to an hour at least. The path is not that clear, quite overgrown.
Good luck with it.
Dylan
