The sky was overcast at the Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve when I walked passed the picnic field in the middle of the red walk. Unexpectedly a beam of sunlight shined on the grass field. A small bird sprang out from a piece of rock bathing in the sun beam. Through my steiner I saw greyish-white underparts dusky breast decorated with a yellow flank. The names of the flycatchers robins thrusts quickly flipped through my mind. To my disappointment, there is not a match. Have reconciled myself to this embarrassing situation, I took out my nikon and record this photo. Just when I put down my camera, the bird turned flicking her tail towards me. All of a sudden a literally wrong name cast into my mind – an immature red-flanked bluetail.
I do not know if the bird is a female or a first winter male, however, one thing I am sure is that this passerine lit up my day on January 9th.
