The 2013 WWF Big Bird Race will take place on Saturday 2 February. This annual event raises around HK$1,000,000 for wetland conservation work at the Reserve and is therefore important to our management of the gei wai and ponds for waterbirds.
This year's race will be raising funds to upgrade a section of boardwalk to the southern floating hide and also to enhance some of the reedbeds on the reserve. Further details of the race and ways that the public can contribute towards our fundraising efforts can be found on the WWF website: https://apps.wwf.org.hk/eng/bigbirdrace.php?apcode=13EVP002
In order to facilitate the race and ensure public safety we need to close off some floating bird-watching hides on Saturday 2nd February. Two hides will be closed for use by BBR participants only, as shown on the attached map. The other two hides will remain open to the public. If you intend to visit the mudflat on that day please only use the two public hides. All hides will be open again as usual on Sunday 3rd February.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, but we hope you understand our reasoning.
