John, Do you know if this newly split minla is the same as the one in Thailand?
BH Shrike-Babbler is a great bird to photograph!
Cheers

Hi Mike,
Craig Robson's "Birds of SE Asia" has updated the scientific family name from Minla to Chrysominla, and the English name has been changed - arbitrarily, I feel - from "Chestnut-tailed Minla", now to "Bar-throated Minla".
(Twenty years ago this species was "Bar-throated Siva" in Salim Ali's books, and perhaps the name will return in another decade. I notice that the former Blue-winged Minla has become Blue-winged Siva recently. So it's gone the other way….. very confusing ! )
But despite the name changes I don't think this one has been "split"…unless I've missed something, which is entirely possible. According to C. Robson's tome, the race in Thailand is castanicauda and the one in Yunnan is - wait for it - yunnanensis.
Keep smiling
John
