Yes. you're right. This is an adult Black-tailed Gull.
Red and black mark on the bill, pale iris and relative darker color on the back showed this should be a black-tailed Gull
Can I know the time and location you took this photo? Author: fkm Time: 5/03/2013 10:05
Oops, sorry about omitting the locations, the bird was seen, at quite a distance, in Macau, Zone 2 of their "Reserve", now rendered as a massive construction site! Author: lrichard Time: 5/03/2013 10:34
And the date?
This species is rarely reported from Macao. Author: brendank Time: 5/03/2013 18:52
Gulls frequently site on the breakwalls visible just beyond the Mecau Ferry Terminal from the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry. I saw Black-tailed Gull there last winter from the ferry. Unfortunately, the breakwalls seem to be slightly to far from land so I think it would be difficult to check the gulls from land. Author: fkm Time: 6/03/2013 08:33

Dear Richard,
I include a date in all my photos. If you could not see it well, it is March 4, the morning I posted the picture up.
According to a veteran local birder, Black-tailed Gulls are seen every year during Winter at the site near the ferry terminal. But it is the first time I see one, an odd, lonely one away from the traditional site. Author: lrichard Time: 6/03/2013 09:59
Thanks, fkm.
I saw your date and time stamp, and took it to show the time of posting.
More photos from Macao please!
Richard
