Subject: [Kingfisher] Courting Common Kingfishers [Print This Page]

A lovely pair of common kingfishers courted and mate this afternoon ..

1:43 - male caught a fish ..
1:48 - female arrived on the scene ..
1:49 - female accepted the gift from the male ..
1:51 - they sat around and singing before flying off into the distance ..
2:51 - female re-appeared some 100m from the "courting" location"
2:53 - the male arrives and calls the female over (20m away)
2:54 - as soon as the female arrived, the male jumped on top of the female ..
2:55 - they disappeared after a few seconds ..

we did manage to capture them mating on film but they were quite far away and in a very dark spot .. unfortunately ..

I was back to Chinese University this afternoon and I although I did not see for myself, I heard that the same pair were still courting and again were mating this morning ..

the same pair are still at it .. although i did notice that there were now two female and one male this afternoon.
