Yalu River, Ji An, Jilin Province 吉林省集安鴨綠江
Biggest surprise of this trip - Harlequin Duck 丑鴨
It was found among a flock of Common Pochards; it has not been seen by local birders for 5 years!
Wow -only the second Harlequin I've ever heard of in China, plus a great supporting cast - its not often Scaly-sided Merganser gets relegated to second place!
Great pictures, and I have to agree with Mike's comment !
How did you get there, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks Ken.
Actually to visit Ji An is quite straightforward. There is a morning train (11:10) departs from Beijing Station to Tong Hua (通化) which takes about 19 hrs. & arrives Tong Hua at 06:24. Then there is a train departs from Tong Hua to Ji An (集安) at 07:32 & the trip takes about 3 hrs. At Ji An, you can hire a taxi to search for the ducks along Yalu River. Ji An is a beautiful town along Yalu River at the border with N. Korea & its streets are exceptionally clean.
One thing to note, photographers are advised not to bring super-telephoto lens to the river as this is a sensitive area & may cause trouble.
