Dear all

The birds below resemble tree sparrow but it is much darker in color. I believed that it is not dirt and the birds are not a single one. I have seen them quite a few time when I worked in BJ. The photos were taken inside the campus of University of International Business and Economics.

I have tried to find books and cannot find out what they are. Would appreciate anyone help to tell me what they are. Thanks

Could they be very dirty Eurasian tree sparrows?  They look like they have been up a chimney!  Overall appearance is sparrow-like.

A melanistic Tree Sparrow is perhaps more likely. Occurs in House Sparrow as well: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community ... /82585/551869.aspx.
