In fact this one is a Common Redshank. The bright red legs and red base to the bill rule out anything apart from a redshank. The brown upperparts and streaked/spotted head and neck fit Common. (Most Spotted Redshank are now also developing breeding plumage, so look black or at least with some blackish feathers) Author: samchang Time: 28/04/2013 09:06
Thanks, John. From your description, the below taken in last Nov is actually a Spotted Redshank instead of Common Redshank because of the head pattern? I thought it is a Common Redshank simply based on the upper part of bill is black while the lower part is red (though I am not that certain now after relook at it as it seems it is actually dirty red...). Am I right?
