Long Valley 26th sep,
Saw some good birds including a common snipe, phalarope,
many stonechats and also this snipe, any ideas which one?
I don't think its a common one as the markings were so different.

This bird with a long bill, bill/head length ratio about 2.2:1
So this bird should be Common Snipe

But the colours are so different.
Is it a juvenile or female?

Can please someone help tell the difference.
I thought this one was a common snipe and is a very different colour

The ID key is the bill/head length ratio
Please see the attached photo
In this photo showed the Pintail / Swinhoe's Snipe with shorter bill
