One juvenile BFS, fitted with satellite tracking transmitter and colour rings (S21), came to Deep Bay in early November. Signals of this bird have been collected and these results could show the movement of this bird. In the picture, it clearly shows that this bird likes to stay overnight in Pond 11, Mai Po Nature Reserve, and go to intertidal mudflat in the Deep Bay area (including near the Hong Kong Wetland Park, outside boardwalk birdwatching hide and also to Futian, Shenzhen) presumably for feeding.
Some of these movements have also been recorded by us and submitted to the BFS Record System (http://bfs.hkbws.org.hk/en-US/sightings). So, both satellite tracking and reports of re-sighting of colour-ringed individuals could help us understand more about local movements and habitat utilisation of BFS in the Deep Bay area.
This bird was fitted with this tracking device and colour rings at the breeding site of South Korea on June 2013.

Slightly different from the situation in early November, although S21 (Nickname YeonpyungYi) still stayed overnight in Mai Po Nature Reserve, it barely went to mudflat area outside boardwalk and Futian, Shenzhen. It mainly went to Wetland Park, fishpond in Fung Lok Wai and Nam Sang Wai during daytime.
We would also like to give thanks to birders kc3018 and MRLI who have reported S21 in Pond 11 and 16/17 in the Mai Po Nature Reserve in Dec.

In February, S21 spent a lot of time outside Mai Po. It rested in Mai Po Reserve at night and stayed in Nam Sang Wai and Fung Lok Wai fishpond area during daytime.
S21 April and May Summary
S21 spent a lot of time in Wetland park and Nam Sang Wai area, seldom to Inned deep bay mudflat and Shengzhen. But he increased the frequency to visit mudflat area in May, several birdwatcher saw it in mudflat birdhide and take some of good shot of it.
Dr. Lee from South Korea gave us the most updated news of S21, it already left HK on 26 May. It started its journey on early morning, arrived to Putian at night and Fuzhou on 27 May. Fujian was the place tht S21 stayed during the southern migration in last October. S21 spent more than half of year from 5th Nov to 25th May. It mainly stayed in Mai Po for roosting and spent time in Wetland Park and Nam Sang Wai in daytime. In May, S21 incresed the frequency to visit tidal mudflat. This is a interesting finding, hope that a further study can be carry on in the future.
A26 also reported in breeding which was carrying 2 chicks from Dr Lee. This bird was at least 16 years old since banding. It would be the oldest bird for wild banded breeding record!!!
