Temporary closure of two floating birdwatching hides on Saturday 25th January 2014
兩間觀鳥浮屋於2014年1月25日暫時關閉
The 2014 WWF Big Bird Race will take place on Saturday 25th January. This annual event raises around HK$1,000,000 for wetland conservation work at the Reserve and is therefore important to our management of the gei wai and ponds for wildlife.
This year's race will be raising funds to enhance an area of Gei wai #19, by conversion into freshwater wetland and by desilting reedbeds to increase their value for reedbed-dependent bird species. Further details of the race and ways that the public can contribute towards our fundraising efforts can be found on the WWF website: http://www.wwf.org.hk/en/getinvolved/hkbbr/
In order to facilitate the race and ensure public safety we need to close off some floating bird-watching hides on Saturday 25th January. Two hides will be closed to the public and reserved for use by BBR participants only, as shown on the attached map. The other two hides will remain open to the public as normal. If you intend to visit the mudflat on that day please only use the two public hides. All hides will be open again as usual on Sunday 26th January.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, but we hope you understand the reasons and the benefit this event brings to birds at Mai Po.
